Preparing for Labour and Birth (Saturday course)

The preparing for Labour and Birth course can be attended at any stage of your pregnancy, but would not recommend any later than 37 weeks gestation. Some expectant parents feel they have benefited from attending the course at a relatively early stage of their pregnancy. This course offers a days's education delivered by a practicing midwife on a Saturday starting at 10.30am and finishing at 5.00pm.

The course format offers the opportunity for you and your partner / birth supporter to attend and meet other new parents, exchange experiences and ask questions in a comfortable, friendly and informal venue.

The courses are practical and the topics covered include:

¦Where to have your baby ¦Intended length of stay ¦What to bring ¦Signs of labour ¦Early stages of labour ¦Assessment during labour ¦Pain relief in labour ¦Positions in labour ¦Induction of labour ¦If labour fails to progress ¦Caesarean section ¦Postnatal issues ¦Breastfeeding ¦Formula feeding ¦Discharge from hospital ¦Bathing your baby ¦Diet and nutrition Refreshments are available consisting of tea / coffee and a light lunch. Comprehensive course materials are also included for you to take away.
